Soak up the Son

Hey everyone! Today I had to work for Panera and I saw something weird. No for real first it started with one of my customers and she had like this black stuff on her forehead that looked like smeared mascara. I asked one of the girls about it and she said it was probably religious. Then I kept seeing people with the marking and some looked like round spots and others looked kinda like a cross. So as I was typing this post I decided to look for a picture on the net to kinda show you what I mean and I found this........

( In Ash Wednesday services churchgoers are marked on the forehead with a cross of ashes as a sign of penitence and mortality. The use of ashes, made by burning palm crosses from the previous Palm Sunday, is very symbolic.

God our Father, you create us from the dust of the earth. Grant that these ashes may be for us a sign of our penitence, and a symbol of our mortality. Traditional Ash Wednesday prayer

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent for Western Christian churches. It's a day of penitence to clean the soul before the Lent fast. Roman Catholic, Anglican, and some other churches hold special services at which worshippers are marked with ashes as a symbol of death, and sorrow for sin. )

.....Well after I read this I realized that today is Wednesday so I looked on the net again to see if today was Ash wednesday and what do you know... It is.. Well I think its all a little weird to me but it answered my question as to why all these people had smudges.
